Chapter Six
(Continued)
Ilani slowed and looked around - nowhere looked familiar. Of course they weren't on their island, but...
"Where's the hospital?", she cried. "Where's my family?"
Des looked at Ivan. "Hey!", he said accusingly, "You said the kiddie was alone. She hadn't got a family. That's why she was crying. You lied!"
"O shh!", Ivan replied. "It doesn't matter. She'll be looked after."
"It does matter. I'm taking her back", and Des marched off with Ilani.
Sometime later they found her dad. He was so relieved.
"Thank you", he said to the young man. "Could you help me get a job?", pleaded Des. "What I've been doing is wrong. I didn't realise."
"You need to talk to the police first", Frankie answered. "Then I will do my best."
"Come on, young lady. Your brother has missed you. We have also missed you.
"Mum will just leave again", muttered Ilani.
"Well, that was no excuse to leave with strangers. You know that. And God has given me some ideas about the future that may help us all. I will talk to your mother first."
Sue was waiting for them near Malawi's room. "Malawi has visitors", she said through tears of joy at Ilani's return. "Come and see!"
